How to do the Initial Balancing process

Modified on Mon, 23 Sep at 1:21 PM

By utilizing the initial balancing function on KingslakeBlue Line balancing software, the user has the ability to allocate a particular style to numerous selected modules/lines to gain maximum output from each line (these lines should have the same style type defined in the system). The system selection of lines is based on historical data, available skills and capabilities of the operators.

Once the allocation and analysis is completed, the user can view the operation breakdown of each production line. This will display a visual representation of the production line with the hourly pieces, rate and the efficiency of each line.

Why is it done?

Initial Balancing can be used to plan ahead in order to optimize production capacity for a style. For example in the planning stage, the planner can decide the most suitable style for a particular line to be used for optimal capacity planning.

Step by step process

1.Scroll to the “Initial Balancing” tab in the left of the screen and click “New”.

2. Select the layout options which give the suggested lines for maximum efficiency

3. Select the necessary lines (only lines that have been defined with the same style type will be suggested here).

4. Click the “Balance” button.

After initial balancing the above screen will be shown. The efficiency, hourly target and the match percentage of the respective lines will be displayed.

Efficiency - Provides an efficiency percentage against the standard SMV for a particular style/layout.

Hourly target - Will give the hourly output (pcs) of the line.

Match percentage - Provides a percentage of the current operator/employee skills that match the required skills in the style/layout.

Access the layout allocation of each line by simply clicking on the corresponding row. The layout allocation screen is as follows.

The operation breakdown for each employee will be given in this screen.

For each operation, the sequence no, SMV, efficiency, work minutes, spare minutes and no. of pieces will be given.

Seq no. - The order of which the operations should be performed.

SMV - The time required for a specific operation.

Efficiency - The efficiency of each operator against the SMV.

The operators’ work time will be measured on the following basis.

Work mins. - Time taken for the operator to perform a specific operation to complete the mentioned number of pieces within an hour.

Spare mins. - Number of minutes the operator is idle per hour.

No. of pieces(PCS) - Output of the operator in pieces per hour.
